AI visibility tools

AI visibility tools compared: 12 AEO and GEO tools, with real prices.

AI visibility tools, also called AEO or GEO tools, can measure three different things: what AI assistants say about you, which AI crawlers read your site, and which visitors AI sends you and whether they buy. Most lists rank them on the first alone. This guide compares 12 tools on all three, with prices taken from each vendor's own pages on October 5, 2026, and says where OneLence fits.

The 12 tools at a glance

The tools are ordered by how many of the 30 lists we read name them, from Semrush on 24 to Cloudflare on one (see how we chose). Prices are the lowest each vendor published on its own pages on October 5, 2026. Follow the links for current prices.

What each tool measures

An AI visibility tool can measure up to three layers:

  • AI answers. A prompt tracker asks AI assistants a set of questions every day and records whether the answers mention or cite you, and who else they name.
  • AI crawlers. Server, CDN or edge data shows which AI crawlers read your pages and which pages assistants fetch while answering someone.
  • Visitors and conversions. Analytics shows the people who click through from an AI answer and whether they sign up or buy.

"Not mentioned" below means the vendor's own pages we read don't say. It doesn't prove the feature is missing.

Two things stand out. First, AI crawler data is no longer rare: 7 of the 12 tools read server, CDN or edge data on AI crawlers, counting Ahrefs' separate Bot Analytics. Second, conversions still lean on Google Analytics 4. Seven of the 12 report conversions from AI visitors, and six of those take them from GA4. Only Profound's Pixel, in beta, and Ahrefs' Web Analytics events count them with the tool's own tracking, and Ahrefs doesn't mention revenue. If GA4 key events or ecommerce tracking aren't set up, most of these tools show AI visits but no sales.

Free ways to start

  • Cloudflare AI Crawl Control is free on every Cloudflare plan for sites that run through Cloudflare. The free plan shows the last 24 hours, and referral counts need a paid plan.
  • AthenaHQ's Essential plan is free with 300 credits, on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot.
  • Semrush's free plan checks AI mentions, citations and a visibility score, and audits 100 pages for AI readiness.
  • Ahrefs Web Analytics is free for verified sites up to 1 million events and shows traffic from AI chatbots.
  • HubSpot AEO has a 28-day free trial with 25 prompts, and HubSpot also offers a free one-time AEO Grader.
  • OneLence's robots.txt and llms.txt checker is free and shows which AI crawlers your robots.txt lets in. Its free robots.txt generator writes the rules for each crawler, and its llms.txt generator drafts an llms.txt from your pages.

What every AI visibility tool misses

  • Prompts are a sample. You pick the prompts, but customers ask in their own words, and answers change between runs, places and accounts. A prompt tracker shows what AI said to its prompts, not what each customer saw.
  • Engines depend on the plan. Several entry plans cover three or four engines, and adding more costs extra or takes a higher plan.
  • Clicks from Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode arrive as google.com, so reports based on the referrer count them as Google search.
  • Some apps hide the referrer, so their visitors arrive as direct traffic.
  • Crawler data needs server, CDN or edge access. Most AI crawlers never run JavaScript, so analytics tags such as GA4 don't see them.
  • Conversions depend on your tracking. Tools that import from GA4 show conversions only when GA4 records them, and any tag misses visitors who decline tracking or block scripts.

To see visitors from AI in Google Analytics yourself, follow how to track ChatGPT and AI traffic in GA4.

Where OneLence fits

OneLence AI visibility covers all three layers: what AI answers say about you, which AI crawlers read your site, and which visitors AI sends you and whether they buy.

  • AI answers. Up to 25 questions per site, asked every week on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: how often each engine names and links you, your share of voice against up to 5 competitors, who AI cites and the full answers. Question ideas come from your Search Console queries and from answers that already name your competitors.
  • AI crawlers. Which pages AI crawlers read for search or training, and which pages assistants such as ChatGPT-User and Perplexity-User fetch while answering someone. Most AI crawlers don't run JavaScript, so OneLence counts them when your server reports page requests, and its tracking tag records the crawlers that do, such as Googlebot and Applebot.
  • Visitors from AI. Visitors from 14 AI assistants, recognized by referrer or utm_source by OneLence's own tracking rather than imported from GA4.
  • Conversions. Which of those visitors sign up or buy within 28 days, in the same reports as your ads, search and affiliate partners.
  • What to fix. Actions found in both your answers and your traffic, a weekly site check of robots.txt, pages without JavaScript, sitemaps and llms.txt, a draft of each fix, and a before-and-after view of AI visits, conversions, revenue and answers once you mark one done.

AI visibility is in beta on the Premium plan ($169 a month) and on Scale, at no extra charge during the beta, and you can try it in the 7-day free trial. AI answers, the site check and fix drafts are rolling out to Premium and Scale workspaces. See how OneLence AI visibility works.

How we chose the tools

OneLence publishes this page and sells AI visibility measurement, so we kept OneLence out of the tables and described it in its own section. To pick the tools, we counted how often each one is named across 30 lists: the 17 list pages in Google's top 10 for "aeo tools" and "best ai visibility tools" on October 5, 2026, and 13 lists that AI answer engines cited when asked about AI visibility tools that day. The 11 prompt trackers are every tool named on at least six of those lists, from Semrush on 24 to AthenaHQ on six. The next five tie at five lists each: Similarweb, Writesonic, Frase, Conductor and AIclicks. We added Cloudflare AI Crawl Control because it measures the crawler side, which most of the lists leave out.

Facts and prices come from each vendor's own website, documentation or help center, read on October 5, 2026. We didn't test the tools hands-on.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI visibility tool?

Software that measures how your brand and website show up in AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google's AI Overviews. Most of them run a set of prompts every day and record whether the answers mention or cite you. Some also read your server or CDN logs for AI crawlers, or report the visitors AI assistants send you and whether they convert.

What does AEO mean, and is it different from GEO?

AEO stands for answer engine optimization: making your content easy for AI assistants and answer engines to find, use and cite. GEO, generative engine optimization, means the same thing, and many vendors use both names. An AEO or GEO tool is an AI visibility tool.

Which AI visibility tool is best?

The one that measures what you need to know. To see what AI answers say about you on a small budget, look at Otterly.AI, HubSpot AEO or Surfer. If you already pay for an SEO suite, start with its AI add-on from Semrush, SE Ranking or Ahrefs. For prompts, AI crawler logs and conversions in one tool, look at Peec AI, Scrunch, Profound or AirOps. For free AI crawler data on a site that runs through Cloudflare, use Cloudflare AI Crawl Control.

How much do AI visibility tools cost?

On October 5, 2026, published entry prices ran from $29 a month (Otterly.AI, 15 prompts) to $300 a month (Scrunch, billed monthly), and Profound and AirOps published no prices. Cloudflare AI Crawl Control is free, and AthenaHQ and Semrush have free plans. Most tools charge by prompts, credits or checks, so the bill grows with the number of questions and engines you track.

Are there free AI visibility tools?

Yes, with limits. Cloudflare AI Crawl Control is free on every Cloudflare plan and shows which AI crawlers visit, with the last 24 hours on the free plan. AthenaHQ's Essential plan is free with 300 credits. Semrush's free plan checks AI mentions, citations and a visibility score. Ahrefs Web Analytics is free for verified sites and shows traffic from AI chatbots. HubSpot AEO has a 28-day free trial.

Can an AI visibility tool show which AI visitors become customers?

Some can. Peec AI, Profound, Scrunch, SE Ranking, AthenaHQ and AirOps get conversions from Google Analytics 4, so they report what GA4 records, and key events or ecommerce tracking have to be set up there. Profound's Pixel, in beta, and Ahrefs Web Analytics count conversions with their own tag. OneLence records visitors from 14 AI assistants and their conversions with its own tracking, without GA4.

Why don't AI crawlers show up in Google Analytics?

Because most AI crawlers never run JavaScript. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and ChatGPT-User download a page's HTML without running its scripts, so tag-based analytics such as GA4 never record them. Seeing them takes server, CDN or edge data: server or CDN logs (Peec AI, Profound, Scrunch, Otterly.AI, AirOps), Cloudflare (Cloudflare AI Crawl Control, Ahrefs Bot Analytics) or server-side page tracking (OneLence).

Can a tool show whether ChatGPT cited my page?

Tools that track AI answers can, for the questions they ask: they record which sources each answer cites. OneLence AI answers does this every week for up to 25 questions on six engines, ChatGPT included. It is a sample, because answers change from run to run and person to person. Crawler data shows another side: when ChatGPT-User or Perplexity-User fetched your page while answering someone.
